As part of the Task Force 76 VISTA FORGE exercise, members of Applied Training Solutions utilized ATSsim Training to simulate a nuclear detonation in the vicinity of Charlotte, North Carolina. The exercise took place February 19-25.

As part of Defense Support to Civil Authorities, Task Force 76 supports the Command and Control Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear Response Element-A (C2CRE-A) mission. C2CRE-A specifically conducts CBRN area assessment, while also providing casualty assistance and medical support, logistics, transportation, and more.

ATS personnel participate in these events by providing support during the planning execution phases of these exercises. ATS members write the scenarios that will be simulated, as well as role-play elements of the higher headquarters, Federal and State partners.

ATSsim is a cloud-based constructive simulation platform that allows users to simulate several elements of CBRN response, command and control tools and reports at several echelons, classes of supply and their consumption, as well as force flow and elements moving in and out of the area of responsibility.

For this specific simulation, the effects of the nuclear detonation created significant infrastructure damage, between 20-76,000 casualties, and approximately 162,000 people becoming contaminated with radiation. This created a simulated effect of two primary hospitals within the Charlotte area getting shut down, ordered to evacuate, and relocate to remote medical sites.

ATSsim and ATS personnel were able to assist in ensuring Task Force 76 is fully trained, equipped, and prepared to handle a real-world nuclear scenario at a major scale.
