SPOKANE, WA – From June 7 – 8, Applied Training Solutions, LLC (ATS), assisted with the VIGILIANT GUARD Washington event at Fairchild Air Force Base. The primary purpose of this exercise was to execute Continuity of Operations and Continuity of Government tasks, facilitate multi-component/multi-agency force flow from eastern Washington into the Cascadia Subduction Zone response, and establish a Common Operational Picture in the Joint Operations Center.

The event consisted of a one-day table-top exercise and a half-day staff exercise, both facilitated by ATS.  During the table-top exercise, the Washington National Guard discussed the processes they would go through to stand up and operate a Dual Status Command-led Joint Task Force.  During the staff exercise, participants put into action all of the processes discussed the previous day.  The overall intent and objectives of the exercise were met.

Lieutenant Colonel Rona P. Ritchie, commander of the Washington Air National Guard’s 141st Logistics Readiness Squadron, said that “Mentally grasping the enormity of the situation while trying to serve your neighbor and nation are exhausting. Exercises, like this one, strengthens the guard’s ability to meet these type situations.”

VIGILANT GUARD is an exercise program sponsored by United States Northern Command in conjunction with National Guard Bureau that focuses on Defense Support to Civil Authorities in response to natural or man-made disasters.  By exercising these mission responsibilities, the National Guard is better prepared to respond to their state’s support requests and save lives, alleviate suffering, and protect property.

As a leader in emergency preparedness training and readiness, ATS continues to actively work to deliver innovative, experience-based disaster-preparedness exercises solutions for local, state and federal agencies to protect communities.
