NASHVILLE, TN – On August 5, 2021, Applied Training Solutions (ATS) supported the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency and Tennessee National Guard in a recent full scale exercise that fostered cooperation between the agencies by exercising the state’s Emergency Action Plan.
ATS ran a computer-based hurricane simulation that swept up from the Gulf and impacted Tennessee. Emergency responders had to react to high winds and heavy rainfall and the impacts across the state. Extensive flooding, power outages, and destroyed infrastructure limited their capacity to act efficiently. Despite this, emergency responders were successful in mitigating losses and responding correctly to a destroyed hospital, as well as a crashed rail car that spilled hazardous material onto many roads.
Participants of this exercise included: Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, Tennessee National Guard, US Northern Command, US Army North’s Joint Task Force – Civil Support and Task-Force 51, Defense Coordinating Element Region 4, and the Georgia National Guard Homeland Response Force.
Alongside this exercise, ATS assisted Army North and Joint Task Force-Civil Support (JTF-CS) conduct a recurring exercise called Vibrant Response. These two exercises were preformed alongside each other, with Vibrant Response 21.2 helped current DCRF forces be prepared in a Defense Support for Civilian Authorities environment.
On the technical side, ATSsim training simulation and exercise management technology was used in support of the exercises. ATSsim managed the number and pace of exercise injects (things like a tornado or an ambulance) sent into the exercises as text messages, emails and geospatial updates to the common operating picture. ATSsim is the premier constructive simulation tool for supporting disaster response scenarios on the market today.
“As a leader in emergency preparedness training and readiness, ATS continues to actively work to deliver innovative, experience-based disaster-preparedness exercises solutions for local, state and federal agencies to protect communities.
