HAMPTON, Virginia – Supporting the North Carolina Joint Task Force and state emergency response agencies, Applied Training Solutions, LLC., executed a Hurricane response exercise August 17-23 at the JTF headquarters in Raleigh, North Carolina.

“This training exercise was critical for the organization to develop and improve operations in preparations for civil support operations in a natural disaster,” said Mike Croyle, ATS program manager. “Additionally, the exercise was instrumental in the development of junior leaders to understand how the successful execution of staff functions and tasks save lives.”

Critical Ops, LLC., a service-disabled veteran-owned small business partnered with ATS to execute project assurance on the exercise.

“Over the past 10 years, 15 hurricanes and almost as many tropical storms have ravaged the state,” said Dan Maurer, Critical Ops Senior Trainer. “Preparedness for this event is forefront in every soldier and commander’s mind.”

Using Fusion, an enhanced web-based table-top exercise tool and staff trainer, ATS provided a simulated training environment to increase effectiveness and cohesion of response operations and enable testing and validation of response plans and operational procedures through realistic scenarios. The Fusion software enabled North Carolina JTF participants to update standard operating procedures for natural disaster response for this exercise.

“Fusion-led activities are an effective resource and combat multiplier, which States can utilize in their staff development,” said Maurer. “This event pays dividends to the organization immediately and instills training value into each soldier, which materializes tenfold throughout their careers.”
“We cannot stop natural disasters, but we can arm ourselves with knowledge,” said Croyle. “With enough disaster preparedness, lives are saved.”
