FORT EUSTIS, Virginia – Applied Training Solutions, LLC. (ATS) – U.S. Army North’s Joint Task Force Civil Support (JTF-CS) conducted Vibrant Response-Lite, Sept. 11-18, with critical support from Applied Training Solutions (ATS).

The exercise was conducted to prepare JTF-CS and its Defense Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear (CBRN) Response Force (DCRF) units to react to a large-scale CBRN event; coordinating with and supporting other federal agencies such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency in disaster response. The exercise took place at JTF-CS’s home station at Fort Eustis, Va., along with its four subordinate Task Forces at Joint Base Lewis McChord, Wash. and Fort Bliss, Texas. A white cell, located in San Antonio, Texas, provided exercise control.

Using ATSsim Verity, the exercise simulated the detonation of an improvised nuclear device in downtown Phoenix, Ariz., which resulted in 97,000 fatalities, and estimated double that number in injuries.  Verity was successfully deployed to perform the scenario across the complex distributed simulation environment. The simulation platform allowed for the coordination of participating JTF-CS units and the white cell, to fully participate and train with each other as if they were in one location.

ATS and its partner, PAE, managed and steered the exercise in the White Cell, allowing JTF-CS and its TFs to fully engage in the deployment and response to the CBRN event within the simulated environment.

Vibrant Response-Lite was an exceptionally successful distributed exercise, preparing ARNORTH and JTF-CS to plan for larger future simulation-driven exercises such as Sudden Response, Determined Response and Vibrant Response.
