Constructive Simulations

Simulations of various types have been used for many years to support operational, analytical or organizational training objectives. A Constructive simulation is one where simulated people use simulated equipment in a simulated environment, e.g. virtual firemen, fighting virtual fires in a virtual world the results of which are used to train the real Fire Chief and his staff. In a constructive simulation context the functions directed by command, leadership, management and staff are all played inside the computer simulation to represent the reality achieved by the command and staff decisions. Applied Training Solutions' Military Simulation (MILSIM[J1]) and Emergency and Disaster Management Simulation (EDMSIM[J2]) are considered constructive simulations. MILSIM and EDMSIM have been developed to provide low cost, low overhead training simulation to support military unit and civilian emergency and first-responder training requirements. Additionally, both simulations can be used operationally for course of action analysis and refining operational procedures.
